The Cathode Ray Tube.http://inventors.about.com/od/cstartinventions/a/CathodeRayTube.htm

The "cathode ray tube" was invented in 1897 by Ferdinard Braun, but it wasn't in use until the early 1900. This Piece of equipment was responsible for all electronic television images and if you have a electric television today, then you are aware. It is a "specialized vacuum tube in which images are produced when electron beam strikes a phosphorescent." The "cathode ray tube" contain a heated filament, the heated filament is created in the vacum, which is a glass tube. The "ray" is a stream of electrons that pours heated "cathode" into the vacuum. So, whenever you look at a television remember that it was someone invention that has brought us this far.

  1. Ha ha – my theme is Entertainment and I chose to post a blog on the exact same subject – the Cathode Ray Tube. Great minds think alike! I think this shows how greatly the Cathode Ray Tube has affected so many different aspects of society. Not only was it an important invention in shifting the way we view entertainment but it also changed the way we communicate. They are / were used in computer screens and video cameras as well. It’s hard to imagine what life would be like today if we didn’t have this technology and the many different technologies that evolved. Would television ever have existed the way that we know it today? Would home computers be as convenient as they are? Who knows, but the Cathode Ray Tube definitely made many things in our everyday lives possible.
